Am I too old to chase my dreams?

This is a topic that I believe many people think about day-to-day. You know those thoughts that persist in your mind over the years and never seem to go away? Maybe you want to enroll in a degree program. Maybe you have a great concept for a restaurant. Or maybe you’ve always wanted to be a teacher. One beauty in the world is that everyone is blessed with their own talents and abilities but it gets uncomfortable when you look up and you’re not a young adult anymore. As time passes life continues to happen and you start to wonder “Am I too old to chase my dreams?”.

As for myself, recently entering my early-30s, I high-key feel as though I’m racing against the clock. I know that I have a lot more life to experience but the world has a way of reminding you that you should be at specific milestones at specific points in your life. Education: completed in your late 20s. Career: started

your mid-20s. Success: achieved in your mid-30s etc etc… And let’s not even get started on family milestones. While I try not to subscribe to any of that; I am human and it gets to me sometimes.

So am I too old too pursue my goals?

Simply put. No. As long as we assess our goals and move toward them in a practical way that fits where we are in life; there is a rewarding outcome waiting. Let’s say you’ve always wanted to be a real estate agent but you’re deep into your current career. You can study real estate part-time. There are also many support groups and professionals across social media platforms that provide countless resources. If you write out a plan and stick to it you’ll get there before you know it and all of those doubtful thoughts will be a thing of the past.

Following that example can work for anyone at any age. But aside from the plan there’s the psychological side of it. You may feel a bit embarrassed for entering a new field at a not so young age. This is where positive affirmations can help. Repeating them daily to remind yourself of what really matters is a great way to stay in the right mindset. Also, purging yourself of anything that triggers negative thoughts and patterns is a major step that you need to consider. Once you move forward with your plan you may quickly realize that it was never about your age but rather the path that was meant for you.

As with every new year everyone directs their attention to what they accomplished the year before and what’s to come in the new one. This article is specifically for those feeling the pressure from the blessing of age. You’ve got this! Your path is unique and tailored just for you. No, you are not too old to chase your dreams and you are not alone.
