As we all know, the pandemic impacted all of our lives in a myriad of ways. One major thing that changed globally was working in person. It suddenly, in a doomsday type of way, became dangerous to be around people of all things. So that meant closing stores, offices, schools and factories for almost 2 years in some cases. Now it’s finally looking like things are under control and people are being sent back to work in person.
This is a topic that I believe many people think about day-to-day. You know those thoughts that persist in your mind over the years and never seem to go away? Maybe you want to enroll in a degree program. Maybe you have a great concept for a restaurant. Or maybe you’ve always wanted to be a teacher. One beauty in the world is that everyone is blessed with their own talents and abilities but it gets uncomfortable when you look up and you’re not a young adult anymore. As time passes life continues to happen and you start to wonder “Am I too old to chase my dreams?”.
Move at your own pace. You have control of your destiny. You have all of the tools that you need. Don’t just let life happen to you; make it happen for you. Every day is a blessing. You are on the right path. Those are just a few variations of mantras that I regularly reminded myself of during this past year of my life. They served as reminders during every moment that I doubted myself, which was often; and every moment that I found myself distracted. I return to those mantras because they all remain true no matter where I am in life.
With the summer heat full ablaze I have been wearing my hair in protective styles this season. What’s a protective style you ask? It’s a low maintenance hair style that keeps your hair ends concealed and thus protected. Some examples would be braids, weaves and wigs. Crochet braids are another form of protective styling and that’s how I installed my Goddess boho box braids.
We geared up for the drive from Memphis to New Orleans as the end of the road-trip quickly approached. The drive is about 6 hours in total. On the way there we made a quick stop in Jackson, Mississippi. There wasn’t much to see when we arrived. I was just happy to be visiting yet another state that I had never stepped foot in. While in Jackson we made a dash to the Civil Rights Museum to make a purchase at their gift shop. We actually did this in every city. Then we drove
the famous soul food restaurant Sweetie Pie’s but decided not to dine there since the original location is in St. Louis. We’ll have to try Sweetie Pie’s on another trip.
