Earlier this month I went on an amazing road trip to the southern region of the good ol’ U.S. of A. My cousin Kym, a middle school teacher, came up with the idea to go on a week long road trip during her spring break. She invited my mother and I and I just couldn’t turn down the opportunity. I’ve always wanted to go on a real road trip. We started at home in Philadelphia and ended in New Orleans. We stopped at a total of 5 cities along the way and the Big Easy was the perfect way to end it with a bang. Here is part one of my trip.
Cincinnati, Ohio
The first city on our route was Cincinnati, Ohio. The drive took 9 hours from Philly. My first impression of the city was that it is extremely charming. If I’m being honest I’ve never thought of visiting Cincinnati and had no idea what to expect but the city just has a cool urban vibe to it. The style of the houses there are unique and some were just down right stunning! We stayed in the down town area which has lots of trendy restaurants and bars. One of the most memorable sites there was the waterfront which boasts the beautiful Ohio River. I got to feed giraffes at the Cincinnati Zoo. Believe it or not, one must see in Cincinnati is a super market called Jungle Jim’s International Market. It has food from all over the world. They carry exotic seafood and produce. Trust me you will be wowed if you go.
The Ark Encounter
One night at dinner our very friendly server suggested that we visit an attraction called The Ark Encounter. The Ark Encounter is an actual real life Ark built to replicate Noah’s Ark as it is described in the Bible. It’s a walk through exhibit that displays what life was like on the Ark (according to the Bible). It is located just 40 minutes outside of Cincinnati in Williamstown, Kentucky. This is one prime example of why road trips are awesome. I could write an entire article on the experience but I’ll just say this. If you are ever in the area please check this thing out. You get to go inside and see some pretty interesting stuff. It is not only architecturally impressive but the story telling and the experience is something worth seeing for yourself.
The trip doesn’t stop there! Come back Wednesday for more about my road trip!
