My Ikea Malm Hack

After one year of living in my house I was finally ready to design my master bedroom. I had to make sure I chose a style that would make me feel  good about the room where I begin and ended my days. After all, a bedroom is like a personal sanctuary. Furniture is one of the most important details when it comes to building the perfect bedroom. I tried this Ikea Malm hack and I absolutely love it!

I have never been the type of person to spend top dollar on certain things and furniture is one of them. I truly enjoy putting pieces together from various sources and price ranges and making them pop with my own touch of detail. A quick Google search lead me to learning about Ikea hacks. Initially I was going to purchase a more expensive dresser set but in true Dana fashion I searched for ‘diy dresser’ and stumbled upon countless gorgeous Ikea Malm hacks. The bonus of this hack is that it would allow me to save hundreds of dollars without compromising on quality.

I spent a couple of weeks looking at different designs, finally deciding to purchase 2 4-drawer chests and 2 3-drawer chests to use as night stands. The 4-drawer chests would be put side

 

side to form one dresser. I also purchased matching glass covers for the chests which provide a sleek glossy finish. I opted to keep a clean design

 

simply adding drawer pulls.

Ikea Malm Hack

• 2 4-drawer malm chests
• 2 3-drawer malm chests
• 3 Glass covers – make sure you buy the correct sizes to fit your dresser
• Cabinet pulls – I bought 4 inch pulls here
• Electric drill
• Drill bits
• Cabinet pull template – can be found on amazon
• Pencil
• Leveler (optional)

Steps: 

1. Put the dressers together using the Ikea instructions. Measure the height and width of the dresser faces. All of them have the same measurements. Mark the mid point of those measurements with a pencil. 

2. I had a cabinet pull template from installing my kitchen cabinet pulls. This process can be done without the template but I suggest using one to avoid error. Align the 2 holes on the template with the 2 holes on your pulls to find the correct width. 

3. Next place the template up to the drawer face and line it up with the pencil mark you made. Be sure to hold it firmly and drill the holes. Tighten the pulls onto the drawer with the drill. Use the leveler to make sure the pull is straight. Repeat this step for each of your drawers.

I could not be happier with this diy! It looks chic and compliments my bedroom extremely well. The night stands are large and provide bonus storage which is always a plus. Let me know what you think of this hack in the comments!
